Going Home

Damp red dirt, making car tyres slip and slide
Road lined with sugar cane
and towering Sansao de Campo.
A formidable green wall.

The Gate, flanked by flowering
Bougainvillea
Pink, Red, and Purple.

The first sight of Orange Trees
in neat rows, with guinea fowl
and hens walking between them.

The guest house with the rose garden
and dripping in out of control climbers.

Turning the bend
Past the cactus,
the barking guard dog,
the Avocado trees.

The car wheels grind on
Alerting the dogs
As I pull up
Step out
and am home.
